What I Wish I Knew Before I Became A Mom

Becoming a mother for the first time is a blessing but also a very overwhelming time. You and your whole life changes. It is an experience that is different for every new mom and is something you do have to experience your self. But there are things I wish I knew before I became a mom and I want to pass that along for any new mom who is curious what it means to become a mom for the first time.

13 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Became A Mom

I got sucked up into the vortex of looking through old pictures and came across this one. The day I became a mother. So many feelings but it got me reflecting on my journey of becoming a mother for the first time and all the things I would have told myself before becoming a mama…⠀

Motherhood will test you in ways you never thought possible. ⠀

Motherhood will uncover weaknesses but also strengths you never knew you had. ⠀

You will experience so many conflicting feelings—wanting a break but missing your baby is just one example. ⠀

Your first feeling when meeting your baby may feel surreal and not necessarily that instant love, but trust me that love will continue to grow every single day. ⠀

Motherhood will keep you humble. Just when you get something down, there is another thing you have to figure out just right around the corner. ⠀

Motherhood will teach you to take better care of yourself. You’ll learn just how important self care and self love is so that you can be a better wife and mother. ⠀

Motherhood will teach you how important being in the moment is and how fast time goes. ⠀

Every decision in life is made with your children in mind always. ⠀

Motherhood will teach you to let go of expectations and embrace your imperfections. ⠀

Motherhood will make you more vulnerable to fear and worry. I mean your hearts are literally out of your body living in this crazy world. ⠀

Motherhood will teach you that the days are indeed long especially with a toddler but the years are so, so short. ⠀

Motherhood will teach you what is important in life. A dirty house will always need cleaning but your babies won’t always be little. ⠀

Motherhood will teach you that yes, you are a mom but you were also you first. You may lose yourself because your babies are your everything. But you’ll realize how much better of a mom you are when you realize that being a mother is just a beautiful extension of who you are, not all you are. ⠀
