Easy and Fun Activities For One and Two Year Olds

Entertaining two toddlers is a full time job. It’s especially hard because most of the activities that I think of for Luke to do, Levi will most likely put in his mouth. 😅 So I was on the hunt to finding easy and fun activities for one and two year olds. ⠀

I have found a few activities that work really well for a one year old and a two and a half year old that keeps them entertained for a little bit. ⠀

I wanted to share what I found for those of you that are struggling with what to do with toddlers like I was. And probably will be once they get tired of these activities. 🤣

Easy And Fun Activities For One and Two year olds: ⠀

1. Finger Painting:

I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner. It’s non-toxic and safe finger paint so if Levi accidentally puts it in his mouth, he will be fine. However, I watch him super intently and tell him no every time he tried. And eventually, he got it. The paint also wipes off super easily from surfaces but I put a garbage bag down anyways because I’m a little OCD. 😜 ⠀

2. Water Table:

You have probably seen the water table on my Instagram stories. But it’s the best splurge purchase for the boys. They love it! And will play with it for awhile compared to the usual five minutes with an activity. We have been outside for an hour or so while they played with it nearly the entire time. ⠀

3. Legos:

Yes, I know…not that original. But I love using legos to have Luke sort them into piles by colors. And Levi loves building with them while we do that. ⠀

4. Putting baby proof stuff in a backpack:

Luke and Levi love taking things out of bags so I’ll put a bunch of stuff in their diaper bag. And I let them take it all out. To make it a learning activity, I have Luke name what he takes out of the backpack. ⠀

5. Play Tunnel:

This has also been featured on my Instagram stories a lot. Luke and Levi love this and play with it for awhile. I put balls in the center and they love to throw the balls through the tunnels and I throw the balls back in. It’s great for independent play as well. ⠀

6. Rock Painting:

This is another easy activity to do. We do this outside and we use the finger paints with paint brushes. So that way if paint gets on the table or deck, I can just wash it off. This has become one of our favorite activities to do.

7. Sand Box/Pile of Dirt:

We have a pile of dirt in our backyard that both the boys love playing in. We have toy cars, toy dinosaurs, toy tractors and shovels/sand castle toys that the boy play with. They love getting dirty and will usually play with each other for awhile. If you don’t have a pile of dirt, you could purchase a sand box. Or you can buy sand and put it in a container and have them play with it.

8. Play throw and catch with a ball:

This is another easy activity that I play with my one and two year old. It’s great for learning communication and hand/eye coordination. Plus, it’s an activity we can all play together. It doesn’t take much equipment and is really so simple.

9. “Play” Clean House:

This was in one of my favorite because it allows me to get some actual cleaning done with the boys. They love to vacuum with me. We have two toy vacuums and they each have one while I am vacuuming with our real vacuum. When I want to do the dishes, my two year old will help me rinse dishes. And I will give a towel to my one year old and he will go wipe random stuff down. I do the same thing when I want to dust. Some days, I will actually get a lot done. Then other days, I manage to get one task done.

10. Cheerios and Pipe Cleaners:

So I bought pipe cleaners thinking my boys would have fun just bending it and playing with them by itself. But then I came across a blog post with a bunch of indoor activities and saw this idea. You have your toddlers put the pipe cleaner through the cheerios. And it doubles as a snack. How creative and fun, right?! I will link the blog post here because she has a ton of other ideas as well!

  1. Playing clean the house is my favorite! But of course that may be a harder sell. Sometimes I could get them into it by saying, who can put away the most toys in 5 minutes?

    1. Yes, that is a great idea too! Thanks for reading 🙂
